Sundarbans honey to be registered as GI product of Bangladesh

Shundorboner Modhu is being registered as a Geographical Indication (GI) product of Bangladesh.

The information obtained after reviewing the application from the deputy commissioner of Bagerhat has been prepared in the form of a journal and sent to Bangladesh Government Press (BG Press).

If no objections are received within two months from the date of publication of the journal, the product will be registered as a GI product.

This information was provided by the Directorate of Patents, Industrial Designs and Trademarks (DPDT), an organization under the Ministry of Industries.

An application was submitted on June 7, 2017, by the deputy commissioner of Bagerhat for the registration of Shundorboner Modhu as a GI product. DPDT requested additional necessary information from the applicant while examining the application. BSTI prepared a test report on the nutritional quality of the honey and submitted it to DPDT.

Due to a lack of other required information, further details were sought from the District Administration, Bagerhat after a hearing on the matter.

The requested information was resubmitted by the applicant on June 27, 2024 (Thursday).
