Railway Minister: Black market ticket sale ahead of Eid under surveillance

Railway Minister Md Zillul Hakim has announced the deployment of intelligence agencies to crack down on the black market of tickets during the upcoming Eid.

He emphasized that these agencies are now integrated with Shohoz.com to thwart ticket scalping.

The minister made these remarks during a discussion with local administration officials, public representatives, and representatives of the civil society in Rajbari's Baliakandi upazila on Monday afternoon.

Explaining the new measures, he said: "We will now verify the mobile number associated with each ticket. Any discrepancies in ticket sales will be met with strict penalties."

Addressing concerns about potential fare hikes, the minister clarified: "There are currently no plans to increase train fares. Such claims are merely rumours. We are aware of those who spread rumours, set trains ablaze, and sabotage railway infrastructure. Such conspiracies are the work of BNP. Recently, BNP was involved in the tragic train fire incident in Gopibagh, resulting in loss of lives, as witnessed by the entire nation. The individual responsible for starting the fire has confessed to the act."
