Gazipur cylinder blast: Death toll climbs to 5

Two other victims of a gas cylinder explosion in Gazipur have succumbed to their injuries, raising the death toll from the incident to five.

The deceased, Ariful Islam, 38, and Mohidul Khan, 25, died while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Sunday.

Partha Sankar Pal, resident physician of the institute, said: “Ariful Islam and Mohidul Khan sustained burns covering 70% and 95% of their body.”

Mohidul Khan's wife, Nargis, 22, suffered burns on 90% of her body. She is a garment worker and is currently undergoing treatment.

Currently, 26 people are undergoing treatment at the burn institute. 

At least 35 people were injured in a gas cylinder explosion at a house in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur on March 13. 

The incident took place in a shanty town of Shafiqul Islam Shafiq in Kaliakair around 6pm.
