Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities have decided to revoke the certificates of two and expel four others, who are involved in the rape that took place on campus a month ago.
The certifications of the main accused, Mostafizur Rahman, a leader of the JU unit Bangladesh Chhatra League, and another student named Murad Hossain, have been revoked.
Mostafizur Rahman is a student of the 45th batch of the International Relations Department and Murad is a student of the 44th batch of the same department.
The decision was taken at a syndicate meeting of the university held on Sunday night with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Nurul Alam in the chair.
The matter was confirmed by the JU Registrar Abu Hasan on Monday.
Four other students have been expelled from the university. Additionally, the legal action against Mamunur Rashid Mamun, an outsider involved in the incident, will be maintained under state law, he said.
The expelled students are Mostafa Monwar Siddique Sagor from the 46th batch of the International Relations Department, Shah Parhan from the 44th batch, Md Hasanuzzaman from the 45th batch, and Sabbir Hossen from the 47th batch of the Botany Department.
On February 4, at an urgent meeting, the JU administration revoked the certificate of Mostafizur and Murad. It also decided to file a case.
JU Registrar Md Abu Hasan submitted a complaint to Ashulia police station to take legal measures against those responsible.
On February 3, a woman was violated in the adjacent area of Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall at around 9pm, while her husband was locked inside a room inside the dorm.
