Seven new cabinet members to take oath Friday

Seven new members of the cabinet are going to take oath on Friday evening at Bangabhaban. 

President Mohammad Sahabuddin will administer their oath-taking ceremony in the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other high officials of the government. 

New members of the cabinet are Shahiduzzaman Sarker from Naogaon, Abdul Wadud Dara from Rajshahi, Nazrul Islam Chowdhury from Chittagong, Nahid Izhar Khan, Dr Rokeya Sultana from Joypurhat, Shamsunnahar from Tangail and Waseqa Ayesha Khan from Chittagong district.

Among these seven, three members of parliament are elected from their constituencies and four lawmakers are from reserved women’s seats. 

All of them are elected by the ruling Awami League. 

Their portfolio will be disclosed after the oath but according to several sources, Awami League’s Finance and Planning Affairs Secretary Waseqa Ayesha Khan is going to take charge as the state minister for finance, Awami League Health and Population Affairs Secretary Dr Rokeya Sultana will take charge as the state minister of health, Awami League Education Secretary Shamsunnahar Chapa is going to take charge as the state minister for education. 

Lawmaker of Chittagong-14 Nazrul Islam Chowdhury will take charge as the state minister labour. 

Nahid Izhar Khan, daughter of valiant freedom fighter Colonel Huda, will take charge as the state minister for cultural affairs. 

The 37-member new cabinet was sworn in on January 11 after the 12th parliamentary election.

The possibility of extending the cabinet had been under discussion since the beginning, with ruling party leaders assuming that the cabinet extension would occur after the oath-taking ceremony of the reserved seat MPs.
