Meat trader Mamun Hossain was stabbed to death by Md Mizanur Rahman alias Khokon for selling meat at a lower price, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has said.
RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Khandaker Al Moin said this at a press conference at its media center in the capital's Karwan Bazar on Monday following Khokon’s arrest on Sunday.
The accused was arrested from Shibchar in Madaripur.
"Khokon went into hiding after killing Mamun. A team of RAB-5 and RAB-8 arrested Khokon from Shibchar on Sunday night,” said the RAB official.
Mamun was hacked to death on the morning of January 20 for selling beef at Tk650 per kg as per the price fixed by the government at Arani Bazar in Rajshahi's Bagha upazila.
Just beside Mamun, his cousin, accused Khokon, was also selling beef for Tk700. During a heated altercation between the two over price, Mamun was fatally stabbed by Khokon in broad daylight.
Locals rushed Mamun to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Abdus Salam, who works at Khokon’s shop, said that Mamun and Khokon used to do business together. Later, they separated their businesses.
