Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury claimed the people who are provoking controversy that has arisen over public awareness in the chapter “Sharifa's Story” have other motives.
He said provoking the controversy was an attempt at depoliticization.
He made the comments at an event hosted to congratulate the meritorious students at Dhaka University VC lawn on Saturday.
The education minister said that the debate about inciting or encouraging some controversial and unacceptable practice is completely irrelevant, which is not acceptable.
“We are not saying that all criticism is unacceptable; there will be criticism and discussion. But provoking the issue which is not appropriate has other motives,” he added.
“But since it may have sensitivity to a particular religious issue, we have already formed a committee of Islamic thinkers,” the education minister said.
"Several good Islamic thinkers are leading there. So let us know if there is any religious sensitivity effect," he said.
