Ferry services on the Aricha-Kazirhat route resumed after over 11 hours of suspension, said sources at Paturia Ghat of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC).
BIWTC Deputy General Manager (DGM) Shah Mohammad Khaled Newaz said the ferry movement between Aricha-Kazirhat was suspended from 10:20pm on Monday to 9:30am on Tuesday due to poor visibility as the dense fog blanketed the Jamuna River bed, adding that the ferries Begum Sufia Kamal, Shah Ali and Beer Shreshtha Ruhul Amin were anchored at Aricha Ghat and the ferry Begum Rokeya was at Kazirhat loaded with vehicles and passengers.
“The ferry movement started at 9:30am on Tuesday,” he said.
Besides, ferry services between Paturia and Daulatdia were suspended for 8.30 hours from 12:40am to 9:10am on Tuesday, said Paturia Ghat sources.
This time the six ferries – Bhasha Shoinik Barkat, Khan Jahan Ali, Shah Poran, Shah Enayetpuri, Kumilla and Shah Keramat Ali – were at Paturia Ghat and ferries Beer Shreshtha Hamidur Rahma and Korobi were at Daulatdia loaded with vehicles and passengers.
