Bound by old age and unable to walk, Tofazzal Hossain, over seventy years old, on Sunday arrived at his voting centre after being carried to fulfil his wish to vote for the Awami League's boat symbol in Savar.
Accompanied by his wife, he was carried to the voting centre by a local youth at the Abdus Sobhan Model High School polling centre in Dhamrai.
Tofazzal's wife, Monowara Begum, said: “My husband has been a lifelong supporter of the Awami League. Despite his illness, he insisted on being brought to the polling centre.”
This centre, comprising 12 booths, is set to receive votes from 5,271 voters.
Presiding officer of Abdus Sobhan Model High School polling centre SM Kamal Hossain said: “The voting process has been festive since morning. By 10:00am, 15% of the votes had been cast, and the situation has been peaceful so far.”
Seven candidates are competing in the Dhaka-20 constituency.
A total of 355,982 voters will cast their votes in 804 booths in 149 polling centres. Of these, 177,412 are male voters and 178,570 female voters.
