A fire was reported at a Buddhist monastery named U Chit San (Rakhine) Ramu Buddhist Temple in Ramu Sadar upazila of Cox’s Bazar early on Saturday.
However, there was no major damage as locals and the fire service immediately brought the flames under control.
Cox's Bazar Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Mahfuzul Islam confirmed the matter.
The SP said: "A police team as well as the deputy commissioner visited the spot. However, it is not yet possible to say whether it was an act of sabotage or not. The police are investigating the matter.”
He further said: “Security has been increased in the area. We will share more information after the investigation."
