AB Party demands govt’s resignation, handing power to interim rule

The leaders and activists of Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) on Tuesday demanded that the government must resign and hand over power to an interim government in order to hold a free, fair, and credible election.

They made the demand during a protest rally in Dhaka.

At the rally, AB Party Convener AFM Sulaiman Chowdhury urged people to say no to the upcoming election.

Terming the election as farcical, he said: “We do not support this lopsided election, like everyone else and pro-democracy political parties.”

Mojibur Rahman Monju, Member Secretary, said that Awami League leader Dr Abdur Razzaque exposed the long-speculated collusion among the ruling party, partisan judiciary, loyal administration and puppet election commission

“Arab-spring type revolution is not necessary for us, we have seen many more similar successful springs in the past. One more Bangla-spring is on the doorstep due to the lopsided election which would overthrow this authoritarian government,” he added.

Joint Convenor Tajul Islam said that most of the people cannot afford daily living. Yet, the so-called election candidates are spending millions looted from state coffers.

Joint Member Secretary Asaduzzaman Fuaad  said that eight members of US Congress recently wrote to the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) to support fairer wages and to protect labor rights for Bangladeshi workers.

“We have seen that the government did not pay any attention to the USA Presidential Memorandum on labour rights in the past. Repeated sanctions for gross human rights violations and breach of labour rights would severely undermine our already strained economy,” he added.
