Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Friday said a trial must be held over the brutal killings that took place marking hijacking of a plane of Japan Airlines in 1977.
"You all will definitely get justice, as our prime minister is also a victim of such a crime. Her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was killed along with her whole family. Ziaur Rahman and Khandaker Moshtaq had initiated the chain of killings through their killings (on August 15, 1975)," Anisul said consoling the families of the victims of killings carried out by Ziaur Rahman in 1977, 1978 and 1979.
Anisul was addressing a discussion organized by “Mayer Kanna”, an organization of relatives of the victims of killings carried out by Ziaur Rahman in 1977, 1978 and 1979, at the capital's Shilpakala Academy.
The law minister said Ziaur Rahman used to enjoy killing people as it was his nature to murder someone by using another person.
"It is because he (Ziaur Rahman) came to power illegally and he had to commit such crimes to stay in power. He killed freedom fighters as they could have confronted him for his crimes. He even did not let go of his friend Colonel Taher. Taher saved him on November 7. But he arrested Taher and hanged him within the next seven days," he added.
