The High Court has issued a rule asking why Gono Odhikar Parishad, led by Dr Reza Kibria, should not be registered as a political party.
The relevant officials have been asked to respond to this rule within four weeks.
The High Court bench formed by Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Khizir Hayat issued this rule on Monday during the preliminary hearing on a writ filed by Dr Reza Kibria, the convenor of Gono Odhikar Parishad.
Advocate Eklas Uddin Bhuiyan stood for the writ petitioner. Deputy Attorney General Sheikh Saifuzzaman represented the state.
Dr Reza Kibria filed the writ petition against the Election Commission's rejection on September 26.
The chief election commissioner, election commission secretary and senior assistant secretary have been named as defendants in the writ.
