Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant cautionary signal no. one (R) one as the depression over Southeast Bay and adjoining area moved west-northwestwards and now lies over Southeast Bay and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal on Friday.
At noon, the depression was centred 1,555km southwest of Chittagong port, 1,485km southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 1,500km south of Mongla port, and 1,475km south of Payra port, according to a special weather bulletin of Bangladesh Met office.
It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify further.
The maximum sustained wind speed within 44km of the depression centre is about 40kph rising to 50kph in gusts or squalls. The sea will remain moderate near the depression centre.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and the deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
