Now Jamaat calls countrywide blockade for 48 hours from Sunday

The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has called for a 48-hour blockade from Sunday across Bangladesh.

In a statement released on Thursday, Acting Secretary General of Jamaat Maulana ATM Masum congratulated people for their support in the three-day blockade program that ended on Thursday.

Maulana Masum later announced the new phase of blockade for 48 hours. He said that the government is once again planning to stage an election drama to come to power by undermining people's right to vote.

He added that the government has turned the country into a dysfunctional, failed, and corrupt state with the ulterior motives of clinging to power illegally, and the independence and sovereignty of the country is under threat.

He also announced a nationwide prayer program on Friday seeking blessings to save the country, said the statement.
