Journalist Rafiq Bhuiya, who was injured after falling from a rickshaw when police lobbed tear gas shells in the city's Shegunbagicha area on Saturday, has died at a hospital in the capital.
He died while undergoing treatment at Birdem Hospital in Dhaka, BFUJ leader M Abdullah confirmed.
Journalist leader M Abdullah said: “Rafiq Bhuiya was going to Press Club by a rickshaw on Saturday noon from his Madertek residence. When he reached the Shegun Bagicha area, suddenly, police lobbed tear gas shells and his rickshaw turned turtle as the rickshaw-puller could not see due to huge smoke.”
“He was critically injured after falling down from the rickshaw. Then he was rushed to BIRDEM Hospital. There the doctors said a severe head injury caused massive bleeding,” he added.
The journalist succumbed to his injuries on Sunday noon.
His body is currently in the mortuary of Samorita Hospital, and his two sons who live abroad are on their way home. He will be buried after they return home.
