State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman said that the government has a plan to build 450 more cyclone shelters in the coastal areas to combat cyclones and tidal waves.
“Till now, we have not had enough cyclone centres. As the project is underway, we will be able to build new cyclone shelters every year,” said Enamur Rahman while visiting Samitipara and Qutubdiapara in Cox's Bazar around 10:30am on Thursday.
Meanwhile, he distributed relief among the cyclone-affected people.
The state minister also said that the prime minister has strict instructions to provide quick relief assistance to the people of the cyclone-affected areas so that they do not suffer.
The ministry has already given relief assistance to the people of the affected areas.
He said that around Tk20 lakh cash, 50 tons of rice, and 5,000 packets of dry food have been allocated on an urgent basis for the people in Cox’s Bazar.
For rebuilding destroyed houses a total of 1,000 bundles of tin, and Tk30 lakh have been given. Besides, baby food has been distributed.
Enamur Rahman also said: "After visiting the cyclone-hit areas, I have experienced that the allocated reliefs are not sufficient. After returning, I am thinking of going to the ministry to allocate more relief.”
For this, instructions have been given to the Cox's Bazar district administration to immediately send accurate information about what else is required, he added.
Due to the cyclone, many trees were uprooted and many electric poles were broken down. Therefore, it will take some time to repair the power lines. Electricity has already been restored to several areas of the city, said the state minister.
