Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will not be given permission to hold any rally at Shapla Chattar in Dhaka on October 28, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has said.
DMP Joint Commissioner (Operations) Biplab Kumar Sarker told the media that the party wrote to DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman on Monday, seeking permission to hold the rally at Shapla Chattar.
There is no question of allowing Jamaat to hold any rally in Dhaka, Biplab said. Additionally, he warned saying that the police will be on hard line in case the party decides to hold its rally without DMP’s permission. Appropriate legal action will be taken against them.
Jamaat sought police permission to hold a peaceful rally to press home its demands including restoration of the caretaker government. Their other demands include the release of its Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman and other religious leaders, and control of prices of the daily essentials.
On October 18, the BNP announced to hold a rally in the capital on October 28 to press home its one-point demand. The ruling Awami League also announced to hold a rally at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque area on the same day.
