Judge Md Asaduzzaman of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court has reportedly received death threats through two letters.
Dhaka’s Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge Shahinur Rahman confirmed this information on Sunday.
A general diary (GD) has been filed at Kotwali police station by Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court Nazir Shah Md Mamun.
The first letter, dated October 17, was sent by someone named Zaheer Uddin from Saudia Park City, Sherpur, Bogra. The letter read: "Banglar Jubo Somaj icons Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubaida Rahman have been sentenced in a dramatic verdict. Just wait. Just two pieces of clothes, one for yourself, the other for your family. Let us see how long the government protects you ‘patriots.’"
Another letter, bearing the address of one Hatem Ali Saudagar from the Chittagong Sadar police station area, reads: "You unjustly sentenced Tarique Rahman and Zubaida Rahman. We have sentenced you to death. We will execute the sentence soon. Banglar Jubo Somaj."
On August 2, Judge Asaduzzaman sentenced BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman to nine years and his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman to three years in jail for obtaining wealth outside of known income and concealing information.
