Kushtia Lalon followers form human chain against negligence

Dozens of devotees of mystical poet Fakir Lalon Shah and civil society members formed a human chain at the Akhrabari in Chheuria on Saturday, demanding that the authorities stop doing business centring the yearly events.

A three-day event is set to begin on October 17 to mark the 133rd death anniversary of Lalon Shah.

The protesters also asked the government to stop drug abuse and other indecent activities during the fair and allocate more space for the devotees who come to the shrine from different parts of Bangladesh and India.

Speakers alleged that the local administration leased the fair for Tk29 lakh without thinking about the saints and devotees.

President of Shocheton Nagorik Somaj SM Lablo and General Secretary of Kushtia Press Club Sohel Rana spoke at the event. They highlighted that the authorities spread the spirit of Lalon Shah, instead of focusing on doing business.

After the human chain, they held a procession on the Lalon Academy grounds.
