Nurse Farzana and former Navy member Rony Mia got married four months ago.
On September 15, Farzana had a dispute with her husband Rony Mia over her past love affair.
Later that day, after dinner, Rony asked Farzana to go for a walk by the river. During their walk, he pushed her into the river and killed her. When he came back, he filed a missing complaint for his wife at the Keraniganj Model police station.
During the investigation, police solved the murder mystery and arrested Rony, Dhaka District Police Superintendent Asaduzzaman said this during a press conference on Sunday.
The police officer said: “Rony had carefully plotted to kill Farzana after their morning argument on September 15. He took Farzana to the back of the naval police outpost near Basila Bridge (Shaheed Buddhijibi Bridge) in Mohammadpur.”
“As part of his plan, Rony pushed Farzana into the deep water, where she drowned due to the strong river current,” he added.
Afterwards, he returned from the scene and contacted their relatives, claiming Farzana had left the house after a quarrel, supposedly running off with her ex-boyfriend, and could not be located.
Police used technology to trace Rony's whereabouts during the night. This led to a thorough police investigation. While checking the details provided by Rony, the police discovered that his information was false. As a result, they arrested him.
“During the interrogation, Rony Mia eventually confessed to the murder of his wife, Farzana, and disclosed how he disposed of her body,” the police officer said.
He added: “The accused will be remanded and further interrogated in connection with the murder.”
Farzana's brother Ariful Islam filed a case with Keraniganj Model police station.
