Nine-month-old child survives electrocution in Mirpur

A nine-month-old child lived while three members of his family died after being electrocuted when a live wire fell into rainwater in Dhaka’s Mirpur area on Thursday night. 

The child has been identified as Hossain. A video of him being pulled by his legs from the water went viral on social media. 

At least four people died in this incident.

The deceased included Hossain's parents, Mukta, 25, and Mizan, 35, his 7-year-old sister Lima, and 18-year-old neighbour Anik. 

Hossain was rescued by two individuals from the Hijra community, Amina and Brishti.

They said that they found Hossain floating in the water. As he was bleeding from his nose, some local women took him to their house and massaged garlic oil on his body.

Hossain was then rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and was admitted around 12:30am.

The doctors admitted Hossain to the children's ward. Later, the doctors on duty released him in the morning after providing first aid.

Hossain is now with his family, Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost In-Charge Md Bacchu Mia said.

Hossain and his family resided near Dhaka Commerce College, opposite the Jhilpar bosti (shanty town) in Mirpur.
