Minor earthquake strikes Dhaka

An earthquake hit different parts of Bangladesh, including Dhaka, on Sunday afternoon.

The epicentre of the quake with a magnitude of 4.2 was 59km northwest of Dhaka in Tangail and felt at 12:49pm, according to the met office.

No damage had been reported at the time of writing.

Jamal Uddin, the official in charge of the Tangail met office, said: "We received information about the earthquake from the Dhaka office... It was a mild earthquake. Since there is no seismometer in Tangail, it is not possible to tell where the earthquake originated in the district."

Earlier, around 8:50pm on August 14, a 5.5-magnitude earthquake was felt across the country including the capital.
