Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Saturday said under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, now when Bangladeshi people go abroad, they can proudly say “we are from Bangladesh”.
“Sheikh Hasina is not just our leader. Sheikh Hasina is a global leader, praised worldwide. She has taken our country from one position to another. We now can overcome many crises,” he said.
The minister said these while addressing a meeting with 11 national and 37 Narayanganj-based organizations on the occasion of the inauguration of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) at Chashara in Narayanganj as the chief guest.
With local lawmaker and BKMEA President AKM Salim Osman in the chair, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Textile and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, Narayanganj-4 lawmaker Shamim Osman and Executive President of BKMEA Mohammad Hatem.
The home minister further said: "Begum Khaleda Zia had said that information would be smuggled through submarine cables. We do not need to go digital. Today, communication has advanced through that very means. This is called Digital Bangladesh."
"The daughter of Bangabandhu has said she will create a Smart Bangladesh. By 2041, we will transition into a Smart Bangladesh. I am proud of this generation. The new generation will be the main architects of Smart Bangladesh," he remarked.
"The Awami League believes in the power of the people. Bangabandhu wanted a Bangladesh with secular values. That Bangladesh had been lost. Under the leadership of Bangabandhu's daughter, we have regained that vision of Bangladesh.
"We do not believe in any conspiracy. I do not believe in any muscle power or gun power. We only believe in people's mandate. We believe in people's rights," he said.
Putting trust in the incumbent government, Asaduzzaman said there is no alternative to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Various ill attempts are being made to leave the country behind, he said, adding that despite all odds, Bangladesh's economy has progressed a lot.
Highlighting the present government's endeavour to change the people's fate, he said: "When we assumed power, the poverty rate was 28%. Currently, it is 5%. In Sha Allah, it will be zero in 2040. Significant success will be achieved in 2030. Literacy rate will be 100% by 2040."
About the role of the industrial police in the country, he said the industrial police has created a bridge between the owners and workers in the factory sector.
"The industrial police managed to convince the workers that these factories belonged to them. If the factory is damaged, it is also harmful to them. The idea of this industrial police came from the mind of the Prime Minister," he added.
Later, the home minister attended a rally of the Awami League at Railgate number-2 area of the city.
