Progotishil Islami Jote, a new coalition of 15 political parties, was launched on Wednesday under the leadership of former member of parliament and Islami Gantantrik Party Chairman MA Awal.
The formation of the coalition was announced during a press conference at the National Press Club in the capital.
The alliance represents progressive, Islamic and like-minded parties that support the spirit of the Liberation War, with each party's chairman set to serve as co-chairmen of the alliance.
At the inauguration of the alliance, MA Awal said in his welcoming speech that the situation in the country is becoming increasingly alarming day by day.
“The daily life of the common people is under threat due to the relentless price hikes of everyday items. We see mourning over deaths in hospitals. There are various irregularities and corruption in the administration,” said MA Awal.
“'It is the government's responsibility to end these adversities and create a stable environment. Similarly, it's the responsibility of the Election Commission to organize a fair, impartial, and participatory election in accordance with the constitution,” he said.
“We immediately urge the Election Commission to initiate all processes for organising a participatory election,” he added.
MA Awal further pointed out that the progressive, Islamic and like-minded political parties are ready to stop domestic and foreign conspiracies at this urgent moment in the country.
“Over the last nearly one and a half years, we have had discussions and meetings with at least 20 parties and finally decided to begin a united political coalition with 15 of them,” he added.
In a written statement, the alliance's coordinator, Advocate Nurul Islam Khan, said that the people of Bangladesh clearly understand that anti-people power is creating a divisive political situation to reap the benefits of power.
“Various foreign nations, organizations, and institutions have already started intervening in internal matters like Bangladesh's elections, raising anew the issue of our sovereignty,” he added.
The parties included in the alliance are Islami Gantantrik Party, Nezame Islam Bangladesh, Bangladesh Gono-Azadi League, Bangladesh Tarikat Front, Bangladesh Democratic Party, Bangladesh National Democratic League, Bangladesh Janamat Party, Bangladesh Jatiyabadhi Janata Dal, Islami Liberal Party, Janatar Kotha Bole, Bangladesh Swadhin Party, Bangladesh Ganatantra Manobik Party, Sadharon Oikyo Andolon, Bangladesh Islamic Ganatantrik League and Bangladesh Islamic Democratic Forum.
The co-chairmen of the alliance are Mawlana Harishul Haque, Syed Samsul Alam Hasu, Mufti Mehedi Hasan Bulbu, Professor Kazi Mohiuddin Sourav, Khandaker Enamul Nasir, Sultan Zisan Uddin Pradhan, Foyez Ahmed Chowdhury, Mawlana Ataur Rahman Atiki, Md Nayeem Hasan, Dr Mohammad Samrat Jewel, Md Akhtar Hossain, Habib Uddin Ahmed, Md Anwar Hossain and Md Rafiqul Islam.
