Shahbagh police station Inspector (Operations) Golam Mostafa has been transferred to the Central Reserve Office of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in connection with the assault of two Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders.
The order was issued in a notification signed by DMP Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq on Monday night.
The order will come into effect immediately, the notification said.
Earlier, one of the injured Chhatra League leaders Anwar identified Inspector Mostafa as one of the torturers.
Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner Harun or Rashid has been suspended over the torture on Monday afternoon.
A notification signed by Senior Secretary Md Mostafizur Rahman, BPM, read that ADC Harun has been suspended following 39 (1) section of Government Service Law, 2018.
The ADC has to refrain from all government activities for the public interest, said the notification.
Earlier, he was withdrawn from his post and reassigned to the DMP's Public Order Management Division on Sunday, following allegations of his involvement in the assault of two leaders belonging to the Central Committee of the Chhatra League.
According to reports, the incident occurred when ADC Harun took the two Chhatra League leaders to the Shahbagh police station on Saturday.
The duo are Anwar Hossain Nayeem, Chhatra League central organizing secretary and president of the Dhaka University (DU) Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall unit, and Sharif Ahmed Munim, the central science affairs secretary and general secretary of DU Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall unit.
