A Dhaka court on Sunday ordered authorities to send senior BNP leader and former minister Amanullah Aman to jail by ambulance.
Earlier, Amanullah Aman was ill and his lawyer applied for him to be sent to jail by ambulance.
Aman voluntarily surrendered and applied for bail in the court of Judge Abul Kashem of Dhaka Special Judge Court-1 on the orders of the High Court on Sunday.
Later, the court ordered him to be sent to prison after denying his bail.
It was requested to direct the jail authorities to provide him first class division as per Jail Code and medical treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital or Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital.
His lawyer Syed Nazrul Islam made these applications mentioning that Aman was a former minister and former VP of Ducsu.
After surrendering to the court on September 3, the court ordered to send Aman's wife Sabera Aman to jail.
On September 5, the Supreme Court's Chamber Judge Court granted her bail.
At the same time, the court has fixed January 15, 2024 for the full and regular bench hearing of the Appellate Division.
On August 7, the 281-page judgment was published by the High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khizir Hayat. Aman and his wife were asked to surrender before the judicial (lower) court within 15 days of receipt of the copy of the judgment.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on March 6, 2007, filed the case with the city's Kafrul police station against Aman Ullah Aman and his wife Sabera Aman.
On June 21, 2007, a court sentenced Aman to 13 years imprisonment and his wife to three years in jail in the case.
Later, they filed an appeal challenging the lower court order.
On August 16, 2010, the High Court acquitted them.
The Anti-Corruption Commission submitted a petition to the Appellate Division challenging the High Court order.
On May 26, 2014, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court asked the High Court to re-hear the petition.
On May 30, the High Court upheld the lower court order that had sentenced Aman to 13 years in jail and his wife Sabera to three years.
It also asked them to surrender before the court within 15 days of getting the text of the verdict.
