An experimental passenger train was held on the Dhaka-Bhanga route through Padma Bridge on Thursday.
Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said that the railway communication will bring a revolutionary change for the people of the southern region.
He said this while talking to reporters before the start of the experimental train’s journey at Kamalapur railway station at 10am.
The Padma Bridge was inaugurated on June 25, 2022. On April 4, 2023, for the first time, a train ran through the bridge from Bhanga to Mawa on a trial basis. This is the first time on Thursday that the “trial run” of train movement from Dhaka to Bhanga took place.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will officially inaugurate the train service on this new route on October 10. Through this, the long-desired dream of the people of the 21 districts of the southwestern region of the country to travel to and from Dhaka by train will be fulfilled.
On this day, at 10:07am, the train left Kamalapur railway station for Bhanga. At this time, a large number of people were seen standing on both sides of the railway line and expressing their excitement.
The passenger train will cross Padma Bridge and go to Banga railway station. The train will again return to Kamalapur railway station from Bhanga.
Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan, Awami League presidium member and former shipping minister Shahjahan Khan, local public representatives, senior government officials, leaders and activists of local Awami League and allied organizations and media workers boarded the train.
