BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s health issues are increasing, according to her personal physicians, with liver cirrhosis complicating the issues.
The former prime minister is currently undergoing treatment after being transferred to a cabin equipped with all the facilities of a CCU in case of emergency, at Evercare Hospital.
Her condition has deteriorated slightly since Monday night, said her physicians.
There is fluid build-up in her abdomen, which is being drained off constantly, they added.
According to BNP sources, her condition has become complicated mainly due to liver cirrhosis. Protein levels are also dropping due to the disease.
BNP chief Khaleda Zia's personal physician Professor AZM Zahid Hossain said the medical board formed for her treatment held a meeting on Monday night as well. Doctors made changes to some medications. At the same time, it decided to keep her under close observation.
He said her liver disease is affecting other functions.
“The medical board told us that 100% of her treatment is not possible in the country,” said AZM Zahid Hossain.
On the night of September 3, Khaleda Zia's physical condition started to deteriorate.
The party's secretary general, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, went to see her at the hospital.
Even by Monday morning, Khaleda Zia's physical condition had not improved much.
She is currently in the same situation, said a senior leader of the party.
He added that she is unable to sleep due to electrolyte imbalance in her body.
Dr Zahid Hossain said at this moment it is necessary to take her abroad and do a liver transplant, which is not possible in Bangladesh.
“Her physical condition is getting worse day by day. She also has a heart problem. The medical board members have kept her under close observation. They are trying their best.”
BNP chairperson's press wing member Shairul Kabir Khan said she is under round-the-clock supervision in the cabin.
She was admitted to the hospital on August 9 due to physical complications, but her condition has not improved yet.
Earlier, Khaleda Zia's angiogram was done in June last year and three blocks were found in her heart. A ring was placed on one of them.
Her medical board have said Khaleda Zia has been suffering from arthritis, diabetes, kidney, liver and heart disease for a long time.
Along with bleeding in her digestive system, she also suffers from liver cirrhosis.
Before her hospital admission in August, on the night of June 13, she was taken to Evercare Hospital after she suddenly fell ill. At that time, after five days of treatment there, she was brought home.
