Traffic and toll collection on the Dhaka Elevated Expressway increased on the third day of operation of the road's Kawla to Farmgate section.
A total of 30,919 vehicles crossed the airport-Farmgate segment of the expressway in the 24 hours from 6am Tuesday to 6am Wednesday, paying Tk25,06,800 in tolls.
AHMS Akter, project director of the expressway, said most of the vehicles plying the expressway are cars.
In the 24 hours, some 15,690 vehicles used it from the airport’s Kawla to Farmgate via Banani-Mohakhali, 3,619 from Kuril to Farmgate via Banani, 2,898 from Banani to Kawla via Kuril and 8,712 vehicles travelled from Farmgate via Mohakhali-Banani-Kuril to Kawla.
Up to 6am on Tuesday, 27,121 vehicles had used the road, generating a toll revenue of Tk21.97 lakh, compared to the first day's 22,805 vehicles and Tk18.52 lakh in toll collection.
Authorities opened the section from the airport to Farmgate of the Dhaka Elevated Expressway for vehicular movement at 6am on Sunday.
It now takes only 10-12 minutes to reach Farmgate from Dhaka airport through the expressway.
