Five members of a family, including a child, sustained burn injuries during an explosion allegedly triggered by a gas leak at Dhaka’s Jurain on Monday.
They have been admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
The injured have been identified as Altaf Sikder, 70, his wife Morzina Begum, 50, daughter Mukta Khatun, 30, her husband Atahar, 35, and their daughter Afsana, 5.
Inspector Bacchu Mina, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) police outpost confirmed the matter.
Among the injured, Mukta, Atahar, and Afsana are in critical condition, he added.
“As far as I've heard, the gas line in their next house leaked. Around 2am, my niece Mukta went to the kitchen to turn on the stove. As soon as the light fire, an explosion took place,” said a family member.
