Students protest in front of Dhaka Board, demand HSC exam postponement

A group of students staged a demonstration in front of the Dhaka Education Board, urging for the postponement of the HSC examination.

Around 1pm on Thursday, around 10-15 students gathered in front of the Dhaka Board. They closed the main gate of the Dhaka Education Board for nearly an hour and subsequently presented a memorandum to the board's chairman around 2:30pm.

Initially, when the protesting students attempted to hand over the memorandum, education board officials attempted to receive it from outside the gate. However, the student delegation insisted on submitting the memorandum directly to the chairman. During this exchange, the students began chanting various slogans.

An officer from the board's examination controller office addressed the protesting students, stating: "You should give the memorandum to the chairman. It's a matter of time. The chairman will make a decision after consulting all relevant parties, including the education minister."

Subsequently, the chairman accepted their memorandum and informed them that an update on the matter would be provided on Sunday. The students left the location around 2:30pm, announcing their intention to return before the board on Sunday if their demands were not addressed by then.

A group of students has been engaging in protests over the past few days, demanding either a postponement of the HSC exam or the option to take the exam for 50 marks. They previously blocked the Shahbagh intersection to voice their demands but did not receive any concrete results.

Currently, they have stationed themselves in front of the Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board.
