Restaurant owners have asked the government for permission to import beef to combat a surge in its price.
The price would only decrease if the government permitted imports, Imran Hasan, secretary general of the Bangladesh Restaurant Owners Association, said at a news conference in Dhaka on Saturday.
According to him, the Russia-Ukraine conflict is causing a crisis throughout the world, and Bangladesh is not an exception given the country's rising fish and meat costs.
The group claimed the increase in the cost of everyday necessities had caused a 30% decline in sales at hotels and restaurants.
