State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said that there will be no shortage of gas and electricity if industrial plants are set up in the planned areas.
He also put emphasis on exploration activities rather than depending solely on imports at a seminar "Bangladesh's Natural Resources: Philosophy of Bangabandhu" organized by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) in Dhaka on Saturday.
The state minister said that the next two years will be a critical time for Bangladesh, but according to the plans adopted, they will be successful.
“We have to think about the context of our country and decide how to develop the country quickly,” he added.
He added that in line with that goal, a multipurpose energy master plan has been adopted which includes drilling newer wells, generating wind power, setting up single mooring pipelines for oil import, and increasing the production of renewable energy.
In the seminar, Professor of Geology Department of Dhaka University (DU) Dr Badrul Imam presented a paper on Bangladesh's energy potential and its possible actions.
He presented researched theories of what kind of mineral resources might exist in any region of the country.
FBCCI President Md Jasim Uddin presided over the event.
Energy and Mineral Resources Department Secretary Dr Md Khaeruzzaman Majumdar, Bapex Managing Director Md Shoaib, and Energy and Power Magazine Editor Mollah Amzad also spoke at the event.
