The Election Commission (EC) is considering allowing media persons to use motorcycles during polls.
US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas, in a meeting with the CEC, sought EC's stand on the issue of allowing the use of motorcycles in elections on Tuesday.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal spoke in response to his query.
He told reporters after the meeting: “We have informed the US ambassador about the important role of media and observers for transparency in the elections. In that context, he (Peter Haas) wanted to know whether media workers will be allowed to use motorcycles.”
“In response, I said that we are considering this matter. Returning officers at the local level will allow the use of motorcycles considering the conditions there. We will also review this matter centrally and notify,” the CEC added.
US Ambassador in Dhaka Peter Haas has said that the pre-assessment team of the United States will come to Bangladesh in October to monitor the situation of the 12th National Parliament elections.
He pointed out that the United States is interested in free, fair and peaceful elections in Bangladesh.
