Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq has said the ruling Awami League and opposition BNP did not seek permission to hold sit-ins on Saturday.
The official said that neither of the political parties received permission from the DMP to execute their planned activities on Saturday.
In consideration of reports concerning potential breaches of law and order and public inconveniences, the DMP did not grant permission for any political activities on Saturday.
Different associate bodies of the BNP and Awami League announced on Friday that they will stage sit-ins at all entry points of the capital city on Saturday.
The Jubo League announced to hold sit-ins in Abdullahpur, Tongi, Gabtoli, Aminbazar and Jatrabari, while the Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League declared to hold sit-in programs at all entrances to Dhaka.
