In the wake of the devastating bus accident in Jhalakathi that resulted in the deaths of 17 people, the police have filed a case against three individuals.
On Sunday night, SI Sushankar of Jhalakathi Sadar police station filed the case against bus driver Mohan Khan, 40, his assistant Akash, 17, and supervisor Mizan, 30. The accused individuals are currently on the run.
Jhalakathi sadar police station OC Nasir Uddin confirmed the development to Dhaka Tribune.
He said the police filed the case as no one else lodged one on behalf of the victims.
Meanwhile, a five-member probe committee, formed by the local administration, revealed on Sunday that the driver did not have a licence to operate heavy vehicles.
Additionally, at the time of the accident, Mohan was talking with several bus passengers, including supervisor and helper.
At least 17 people were killed and more than a dozen others were injured after a bus plunged into a roadside pond in the Chhatrakanda area of Jhalakathi Sadar upazila on Saturday.
The Barisal-bound bus from Bhandaria upazila of Pirojpur fell into the pond near the local union parishad office.
