Home Minister: BNP activists arrested with valid warrants

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said there were warrants against all the BNP leaders and activists in different cases who have been arrested so far. That is why the police were arresting them.

He said this while addressing a discussion meeting on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB) at Dhaka Reporters Unit in the capital on Sunday.

The home minister said: “It is natural that action will be taken against those who violate the law and create public nuisance.”

Claiming that the police were not obstructing the movement of BNP, the minister said: “The prime minister always says that she is working to bring back democracy in this country. When the political practices are right, the way forward will be smooth.”

In response to the questions regarding the death of a “BNP activist” in Lakshmipur, the home minister said: “As far as I have come to know from talking to the intelligence forces and the local administration - there has been dissatisfaction between the two groups or individuals for a long time.”

“The relationship between these two groups went to the point where one person was killed. BNP says, it was their activists. I want to make it clear to them – the deceased was not a BNP activist,” he added.
