Even though 24 hours have passed since the bus lost control and fell into the pond in Jhalakathi, no case has been filed yet.
Jhalakathi Sadar police station Officer-in-charge (OC) Nasir Uddin Sarkar on Sunday said that no complaint has been received from the relatives.
He said: “We are waiting for the relatives of the victims to file a complaint. If no one complains, then the police will file a case as plaintiff.”
Superintendent of Police Afruzul Haque Tutul said that the investigation is being conducted to see if the accident happened due to someone's negligence. The wrongdoers will not be spared.
District Commissioner Farah Gul Nijhum said that a five-member investigation committee headed by Additional District Magistrate Mamun Shibli has been formed by the district administration to find out the cause of the accident. The committee has been asked to submit its inquiry report within three working days. Action will be taken according to the report.
At least 17 people were killed and more than a dozen others were injured after a bus plunged into a roadside pond in the Chhatrakanda area of Jhalakathi Sadar upazila on Saturday.
The Barisal-bound bus from Bhandaria upazila of Pirojpur fell into the pond near the local union parishad office at around 9:55am. The driver was attempting to make way for an auto rickshaw on Jhalakathi-Pirojpur regional road, Jhalakathi Sadar police station OC Nasir Uddin said.
