Green chilli price rises by Tk60 per kg

The price of green chilli in Dinajpur's Hili has surged by Tk60 per kg from Tk180 to Tk240 in three days, and sellers are blaming reduced supply.

Meanwhile, importers have halted the import of green chilli through the Hili land port due to the increased cost. Low-income people are suffering the most as always due to the price hike.

“We were able to buy green chillis again when the price declined for a few days. However, the price is going up again,” Sunil Basak, a customer at Dinajpur's Hili Bazar said.

Another customer Nazmul Hossain said: “We are being forced to reduce the consumption of green chilli due to the fluctuating prices.”

Earlier, the price of green chilli reached a record-high of Tk800-1,000 per kg in the kitchen markets during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays at the end of June.

However, the price started to drop after the government started importing the necessary spice from India at the beginning of the second week of July.
