Barisal ex-mayor Sadiq Abdullah sued over irregularities

A case has been filed against outgoing Barisal city corporation former mayor Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah for alleged irregularities as he occupied the post of president of Barisal Club and refused to give up the position.

Club member Mofizur Rahman Chowdhury filed the case in Barisal Senior Assistant Judge Court on Thursday, said plaintiff's lawyer Azad Rahman.

He is member number 462 of the Barisal Club and the son of late Manu Chowdhury.

According to the case statement, Barisal Club's annual general meetings are held every two years according to Article 32 of the constitution, In the meeting, the president and 10 directors are to be elected by the members.

To be elected to the post of club president, the term of membership must be of 10 years. However, the current president of the club, Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah became a member on August 20, 2016. 

According to the constitution of the club, he will qualify to become the president on August 19, 2026. But Sadiq Abdullah took over the post of president on March 8, 2019, violating the constitution of the club.

The case statement also mentions that apart from the violation, the mayor also did not pay a huge amount of cafeteria bill, and the club members have to bear the responsibility of paying crores of taka.
