BRTC allocates half of fleet for office employees, students

In an effort to meet the transportation needs of office employees and students, the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) has allocated half of its fleet for this purpose.

With around 1,600 buses in its fleet, BRTC currently has approximately 1,000 buses in active service while the remaining 600 buses lay idle in various depots.

According to BRTC, 202 of their staff buses are assigned to 164 routes, catering to the transportation needs of employees in various public and private institutions, including the secretariat. Additionally, 181 buses are regularly deployed to facilitate the transportation of students to educational institutions nationwide, including Dhaka.

Furthermore, seven buses run circular routes in Uttara, Motijheel, and Mohammadpur in the capital.

Bangladesh and India jointly operate five buses as part of a direct bus service. BRTC also offers nine special bus services for women in Dhaka and Chittagong. Additionally, there is one bus assigned to the Shaheed Ramiz Uddin School route in Dhaka, and ten BRTC buses operate as student services in Chittagong, providing affordable and safe transportation for students.

BRTC further disclosed that its operations encompass 22 bus depots, two truck depots, two vehicle repair factories, four training institutes, and 19 training centers located throughout the country.

According to the organization's report, initiatives are underway to enhance road safety by conducting programs with drivers and conductors aimed at reducing accidents. Additionally, events, programs, and meetings focused on cleanliness are being organized to uplift the morale and work quality of depot employees. Buses requiring both minor and major repairs are being promptly serviced and put back into operation.

As per available information, the Motijheel Bus Depot currently operates 127 buses out of a total of 204. The Kalyanpur bus depot houses 214 vehicles, with 141 actively serving on the roads. Among them, three buses are undergoing major repairs, while 50 buses are beyond economic repairs.

BRTC offers car leasing options to the public, allowing individuals to lease vehicles for a period ranging from five to ten years. According to BRTC, out of the 20 buses currently operating under long-term leases, three buses are privately owned, while the remaining 17 buses are under depot control.

Furthermore, the Gabtali Bus Depot boasts a total of 64 vehicles, with 63 of them actively in service. The Mirpur bus depot houses 142 vehicles, out of which 122 are currently operational. In addition, the Mohammadpur Bus Depot manages 33 vehicles, all of which are actively utilized.

BRTC Chairman Tajul Islam highlighted the organization's commitment to transforming BRTC into a profitable company while simultaneously striving for exceptional service quality. Consequently, the corporation has witnessed an increase in revenue and a reduction in expenses.
