Minister: External powers can no longer strong-arm Bangladesh

Law Minister Anisul Huq said that Bangladesh is a sovereign country and no outside powerful country can force us to do anything.

He made the remark while addressing a special extended meeting organized by the local union Awami League at the Liaquat Ali High School ground of Gopinath union in Kasbai, Brahmanbaria on Friday afternoon.

The minister said: “The United States delegation met us. They only said that they want to see the elections fair, free and fair. They want no violence in the elections.”

“We also told them that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her party Bangladesh Awami League promised to the people to conduct a free, fair and impartial election. Bangladesh also has that legal system, legal infrastructure and the next election will be a free, fair and impartial election. Besides, issues on the Digital Security Act was discussed. We said it was being rectified,” he added.

Regarding RAB, he said that they also admitted that RAB has done a very good job. As the matter of US sanction on RAB is a legal process, they were looking into it.
