Satkhira shines: A bumper year for mango exports sets new records

Satkhira has shattered its own mango export record this season, significantly surpassing last year's figures and marking the highest export rate since 2015.

According to sources from the Satkhira District Agriculture Extension Department, the district has exported 153 tons of mangoes this season.

In 2015, Satkhira has exported 21 tons of mangoes, and the exports increased to 23 tons in 2016 and 32 tons in 2017.

In 2018, the volume slightly dipped to 19.5 tons and further decreased to 1 ton in 2019.

However, a steady increase was observed with 11.36 tons exported in 2021 and 21 tons in 2022.

Remarkably, the export volume in the current season has surged to an impressive 153 tons.

The majority of these mangoes have been shipped to a variety of countries, including Italy, France, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, and various nations in the Middle East.

Additionally, a whopping 68,000 tons of mangoes have been produced this season, substantially surpassing the target of 45,500 tons.

This output marks a considerable increase from the last season's yield of 51,000 tons.

With this, the district smashed its own record this season by producing 23,000 tons more mangoes than projected.

Satkhira District Agriculture Extension Department reported that due to the area's climate and geographical conditions, Satkhira's mangoes ripe several weeks earlier than those in other districts of the country.

Moreover, the unique flavour and quality of Satkhira's Himsagar, Gobindobhog, Langra, and Amrapali mangoes have paved the way for the surge in exports since 2015.

Satkhira Department of Agricultural Extension Deputy Director Md Saiful Islam said: "Just as there has been a bumper yield of mangoes in Satkhira this time, so too has there been the highest amount of exports so far. Although we faced some difficulties initially, we were able to overcome those successfully and export the mangoes.”
