Minister: Over 1 million Bangladeshis immigrated in FY24

In the current 2023–24 fiscal year up to June 15, some 1,074,552 people have left Bangladesh in search of work in different countries of the world, Minister of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Imran Ahmad told the National Parliament.

The minister made the comment in response to Ali Azam, MP from Bhola-2 constituency, during the question and answer session of the parliament on Monday.

Imran Ahmad further stated that during the same period in the previous financial year, 907,007 Bangladeshis migrated overseas. 

Therefore, there has been an increase of 15.59% in the number of individuals going abroad for work in the current financial year compared to the previous year, he added.

In response to the question of Nurunnabi Chowdhury, the Minister of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Imran Ahmad said that since the establishment of the Expatriate Welfare Bank till June 13, a total of 114,521 expatriates have been distributed as various types of immigration loans worth over Tk281 crore.
