Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Md Shahab Uddin highlighted the crucial role of a balanced environment in promoting human and animal health.
The minister spoke during his inaugural speech at the 11th One Health Conference held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in the capital on Monday. The conference focused on the theme "One Health approach for tackling antimicrobial resistance and pandemics."
He emphasized that a healthy and balanced environment is a fundamental component of the One Health Triad, which encompasses the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. Without a well-maintained environment, it is impossible to enjoy ecological services, achieve sustainable economic growth, ensure biological security, and establish a stable and prosperous society.
Md Shahab Uddin stated that the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, as a key partner of the One Health program in Bangladesh, is actively collaborating with both government and non-government entities. Together, they are working to identify the needs and address the gaps in natural resource management, forestry, wildlife, and biodiversity conservation to support One Health activities across the country.
The minister expressed his hope that the One Health approach would be effectively implemented within the involved departments, particularly within the environmental networks, to ensure a successful future journey for the country.
Minister of Fisheries and Livestock S M Rezaul Karim, Chief Conservator of Forests of Bangladesh Forest Department Md Amir Hosain Chowdhury, representatives from development partners, government non-government and international organizations, delegates, speakers from home and abroad, and professionals were present in the conference.
