Rain, thundershowers likely in Dhaka, Chittagong divisions

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Wednesday forecast that four divisions including Chittagong and Dhaka may experience rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind. 

Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places in Chittagong division and at one or two places in Dhaka, Barisal and Sylhet divisions, as a trough of westerly low lies over West Bengal and adjoining areas, the met office said at its 9am weather bulletin. 

The weather may remain mainly dry with a temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, the bulletin said. 

A severe heatwave is sweeping across the districts of Rajshahi, Dinajpur, Jessore and Nilphamari's Saidpur upazila, while a mild to moderate heatwave is disrupting life in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet divisions, the other parts of Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions, and the districts of Comilla, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni and Bandarban and it may continue. 

Day temperature may fall by 1-2°C in Chittagong division but it may remain nearly unchanged elsewhere across the country. 

Night temperature may remain nearly unchanged throughout the country, the bulletin added. 

The weather office recorded the highest rainfall of 98mm in Rangamati in the 24 hours to 6am on Wednesday.

The highest temperature was recorded at 40.5°C in Dinajpur and Nilphamari's Saidpur upazila on Tuesday, while the lowest temperature was recorded at 23.3°C in Bandarban on Wednesday.

In the capital, the highest temperature was 38.7°C on Tuesday.
