Militants hiding with weapons, money held in Gazipur

Three militants of the new organization Jama'atul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya who were going into hiding were arrested during a search at the RAB check post in Rajendrapur area of Gazipur.

RAB spokesperson Commander Khandaker Al Moin gave this information at a press conference at RAB media centre in the capital on Tuesday.

The arrested persons are Mosharraf Hossain Rakib, Zakaria Hossain and Ahadul Islam Majumdar Sifat alias Mamid, members of the organization's shura (council) and head of the finance wing.

At this time, the rest of the members fled. A foreign pistol and various extremist leaflets along with Tk12,40,000 were seized from them.

Sources said that they were going to Madhupur forest area of Tangail from Gazipur in a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw on Monday night to conduct organizational activities.

RAB spokesperson Commander Khandaker Al Moin said: “A joint check post managed by RAB-1 and RAB-7 was set up in Rajendrapur area of Gazipur. At that time, the shura members of the organization and head of the finance branch, Mosharraf Hossain Rakib, Zakaria Hossain and Ahadul Islam Majumdar Sifat alias Mamid were going towards Madhupur in Tangail in a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw.”

“At that time some members escaped. Foreign firearms and huge amount of money were recovered from them,” he added.

Commander Khandaker Moin also highlighted that these militants had relocated to the plains due to the intensified law and order operations in the hills. They were being organized and trained for various criminal activities.
