Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has announced that the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2023-24 will have a deficit of Tk2,61,785 crore (approximately $2.4 billion), which is 5.2% of the GDP.
The finance minister unveiled the budget, amounting to Tk7,61,785 crore (approximately $7.1 billion), in parliament on Thursday.
Out of the total deficit, Tk1,55,395 crore will be financed from domestic sources and Tk1,02,490 crore from external sources.
“It should be noted here that the deficit rate was 5.5% in the previous budget,” the minister said.
