Zayeda Khatun, an independent candidate and the mother of former mayor Jahangir Alam, who emerged victorious in the mayoral race of Gazipur City Corporation, expressed that she contested the election to demonstrate her son's honesty and counter the notion of his removal through conspiracy.
Speaking to journalists at her residence in Chandana, Gazipur, following the announcement of the election results, she stated: "By securing my victory in the election, the truth has been revealed, and along with me, the people of Gazipur have also emerged victorious."
Zayeda Khatun expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and acknowledged the proper conduct of the voting process. She said, "The people of Gazipur voted for me, and I am indebted to them. I will repay this debt by working for them. My son will be by my side, and together, we will complete his unfinished tasks."
When asked if she would seek advice from her rival candidate Azmat Ullah Khan, Zayeda Khatun responded: "If necessary, I will involve him. I cannot work alone. I will work with everyone's advice and cooperation."
Jahangir Alam, son of Zayeda Khatun and former mayor of Gazipur City, expressed his commitment to working with his mother as she assumes the role of mayor. He stated: "My mother has been elected as the mayor, and I will strive to fulfil all the city's responsibilities alongside her. With the support of the prime minister, I will work towards resolving all the issues faced by the city corporation."
Jahangir Alam also expressed his intention to collaborate with Azmat Ullah Khan, referring to him as an elder brother. He emphasized his vision of transforming Gazipur into a beautiful, modern city, working in unison with the elected candidates, local leaders, and activists.
Appreciating the fairness of the voting process, Jahangir Alam conveyed his gratitude to the election commissioner, the government, administration officials, and the media workers. He stated: "With everyone's cooperation, Gazipur witnessed a smooth voting process. We received the accurate final result. We seek full cooperation in our efforts to develop this city beautifully."
